Microsoft now has a reason to smile after NPD declared its Xbox as the leading company in September's NPD sales. PS4 had for a long time maintained the top positon in both USA and UK sales, but very soon the title might shift to Microsoft's Xbox. This is the third month in a file that Xbox is taking home the title and it's almost certain that they might also take it in the next NPD challenge this month.

According to VG 247, Microsoft correspondingly took the lead in UK'S Gfk Entertainment reports for the month of September. The Xbox console has received much approval in the gaming community probably because of its many discounts and free offers. The Forza Horizon 3 game emerged as the top most played game on Xbox, defeating even more complicated games on PS4.

I think Microsoft's marketing strategy is a major contributor of the Xbox One's success. Remember, almost all Microsoft devices have an Xbox feature on them and obviously, Microsoft smartphone and tablet users are way more than the PS4 users out there. The simple game previews that Microsoft posts on the Xbox mobile app, might be luring more people into buying the real thing or the Xbox console to be particular. Pittsburgh Star published that the full NPD report will be available for the public in a week or so. But we all know that all subsequent NPD reports, will be reflecting the struggle between PS4 and Xbox, at least for the remaining part of 2016.

Previously, Microsoft's Xbox 360 had been struggling to outdo Sony's PS 3 and the Xbox One's success can be termed as Microsoft's own way of telling Sony that they have finally pinned them down. The only issue is that, Xbox One is still lagging behind in terms of their install base, if compared to PS4. The company must therefore do something about this lag. All the same, we are very hopeful that Xbox One will maintain its top position even in October.
