'Don Quixote' Movie From Disney Now in the Making

Miguel de Cervantes' classic picaresque tale is now on film in the hands of Disney. Don Quixote is reportedly under the screenplay of Billy Ray, as he works on the adaptation of the classical novel.

As per Variety, Billy Ray has come on to develop the script for the adaptation of 'Don Quixote' that just started filming this month. Ray is the Oscar-nominated screenwriter for 'Hunger Games and 'Captain Phillips' films.

Billy Ray calls his adaptation of 'Don Quixote' in his version which recalls, "the madcap and fantastical nature of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean movies." Ray believes that if this film becomes successful, it will soon be a basis for a Pirates-style franchise.

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra wrote the 'Don Quixote' story in volume one on 1605 while volume two was on 1615, which plot is about a lower class aristocrat, Alonso Quixano. Quixano later goes insane and comes to a belief that knights, maidens, and dragons exist.

Terry Gilliam's famous 'Don Quixote' project has hit the big screen a couple of times. The 2002 TV movie which starred John Lithgow together with Bob Hoskins and the 2015 adaptation Don Quixote: The Ingenious Man of La Mancha is the proofs of this great film. The latter was premiered at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, according to Collider.

Gordon Gray the producer of 'Million Dollar Arm' and 'Secretariat' will produce the novel. However, no director or cast has yet been announced, but the sure thing is the stories will follow an affable and courageous semi-madman in the form of a character similar to Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow, combining action, supernatural, and fantasy.

And as for Disney, this 'Don Quixote' movie is the latest live-action fantasy project in their lineup. No questions, this new 'Don Quixote' will soon earn big in the film industry.
