The Little League season in North Vallejo, California has been suspended due to a non-injury shooting that occurred on Wednesday.

An evening baseball game took an immediate halt after a parent fired a gun at the vehicle another parent from the opposing team, according to ABC.

The incident began with an argument at the baseball field near the Continental of Omega Boys and Girls club, on Corcoran Ave. at around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, said Kenny Park, Vallejo Police Lt, according to The SanFrancisco Chronicle.

The argument began at the game and continued into the parking lot, where the intended victim drove away and the other man open fired at his car but managed to miss the driver, according to sources of the Chronicle.

"Nobody was hurt but the kids who witnessed this scene were 'left shaken,'" reported the Examiner.

Greg Reason, President of North Vallejo Little League, says that he is not happy to have to call this freeze to the season, according to the Times Herald.  He says that he stands behind this decision because addressing safety issues with the community is the top priority.

"We know it's the right thing to do, we just hope some good can come of it," Reason told the Times Herald.

This suspension affects over a dozen games that involve 200 children in the league, which is in its 49th season, according to the Chronicle.

"I don't want to cancel the whole season, but I'd rather lose a season than lose a kid," Calvin Wells, the North Vallejo Little League vice president, told ABC.  He says that gunshots have been fired near the field on several occasions in the past and even in the days since this shooting.

Little League in neighboring East Vallejo says that parental behavior issues are common in that area as well and they blame it on a lack of parental involvement, according to ABC.

"First of all, how do you bring a gun to a tee ball game and second, how do you fire it off?" Anthony Spears, a North Vallejo Little League father, said to ABC.

ABC reports that an emergency meeting was held at 11 a.m. this morning at Thurman Field and police are still looking for the parent who fired the gun.
