"The Simpsons" has been renewed for season 29 and 30 and it's just halfway in its current 28th. The animated series has made generations of viewers laugh for years with around 7.2 million fans watching per episode. Getting renewed for the 29th and 30th season make "The Simpson" the longest-running scripted television show in US television history.

The Rolling Stones reported that soon "The Simpsons" will surpass "Gunsmoke!" which has a total of 635 episodes. The animated series has been running for around two decades now and has overshadowed "The Flintstones" for the most number of animated series episodes. Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Fox Television Group chairmen described "The Simpson" as a landmark television series and it means a lot for everyone at Fox. The two cited the series' executive producers Matt Groening, Al Jean and James L. Brooks for "The Simpson's" impact on culture around the world.

Last October 16 was a special day for "The Simpsons" because this was the day it aired its 600th episode 'Treehouse of Horror XXVII.' Aside from this special episode, a 13-day marathon which will be dedicated to all episodes of the animated series will be aired this Thanksgiving.

Meanwhile, Slash Film reported that the show's primary cast will return for seasons 29 and 30. "The Simpsons" fans will still be able to listen to the voices of Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Harry Shearer and Hank Azaria for season 29 and 30.

Even Homer Simpson had something to say about their show beating "Gunsmoke!" The animated father-of-three said: "Take that Gunsmoke! You lost a race you didn't even know you were running!"

And of course there were no news if season 30 will be the animated series' final season however; there were hints from creators about the show's conclusion. AL Jean once commented on "The Simpsons" series finale saying: "It's quite impossible that we don't have to go through the whole negotiation for 30." Jean said that his bet on the show's conclusion is after 30 but he mentioned that he has been wrong before. He recalled how he thought five seasons would be enough until he reached the 5th season.

"The Simpsons" season 28 airs on Fox. The special 13-day episode marathon will air on FXX late November.
