Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, 24, was surprised to learn that her husband, Tamerlan, was one of the main suspects behind the Boston Marathon Bombing and, after he was killed in a police shootout, she has been left a widow to take care of their daughter.
"Tamerlan Tsarvnaev's American wife was stunned to learn that the FBI was seeking the man to which she was married in connection with the Boston Marathon bombing- the way we all learned, on TV," reported The Inquisitr.
Federal Authorities have asked to speak to Katherine Russell and her lawyer has said that he is discussing with the family how to proceed, according to ABC. "I spoke to them, and that's all I can say right now," said Amato DeLuca, their lawyer. "We're deciding what we want to do and how we want to approach this."
DeLuca also explained that Tamerlan "was home" when his wife left for work on the day that he was killed, according to ABC. He said that she worked 70- 80 hours, seven days a week as a home health care aide to support her family while her husband stayed home to care for their daughter, a toddler. He also said that his client had not had any reason to suspect her husband of anything.
"When this allegedly was going on, she was working, and had been working all week to support her family," DeLuca told the Associated Press, according to ABC.
He said that she never saw Tamerlan's brother, Dzhokhar, in the apartment that she and Tamerlan shared with her mother-in-law, ABC reported.
DeLuca also said that Russell was attending Suffolk University in Boston when she met her future husband at a nightclub, according to ABC. They had dated on and off and were married in 2009 or 2010, he said. He also said that she had been raised Christian, but, after meeting Tamerlan, she eventually converted to Islam.
"She believes in the tenets of Islam and of the Koran. She believes in God," DeLuca said, according to ABC.
Both Russell and her family were shocked to learn that Tamerlan was a suspect behind the bombings in Boston.
"Our daughter has lost her husband today, the father of her child. We cannot begin to comprehend how this horrible tragedy occurred. In the aftermath of the Patriot's Day horror, we know that we never really knew Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Our hearts are sickened by the knowledge of the horror he has inflicted," said Katerine's parents, Judith and Warren, in a statement, according to The Inquisitr.
Katherine Russell has drawn a great deal of, likely unwanted, media attention lately. "The Russells ended the day with reporters knowing on their door. They began the day with police cars pulling up in front of their house," wrote The Huffington Post.
The New York Post has identified that Russell's daughter's name is Zahara and she is 3 years old.
"The mother and baby didn't do anything," her neighbor, Harvey Smith, told The Post.
The Inquisitr reports that she was spotted at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 20th as she was driven to her Rhode Island home by a relative and their vehicle was flanked by two SUV's that were driven by agents from the Department of Homeland Security. She shielded her face from photographers and was driven into the garage of the property.
"We are keeping an eye on the house," acknowledged at Homeland Security agent, according to The Inquisitr.
The discovery that Tamerlan had a wife and child, "is definitely somewhat unexpected - as Tamerlan Tsarnaev has been depicted in media reports as an isolated young man who, at 26, had failed to integrate with American society," wrote The Inquisitr.
