French electro giants Daft Punk have one more accolade to add to their long, illustrious career. Their debut single "Get Lucky" off of their upcoming new album Random Access Memories now owns the record for most streamed track in a single day on Spotify.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the track overtook Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' smash-hit "Thrift Shop" to claim the most streamed crown in what was "the biggest streaming day for a single track in the U.S. and U.K."

The hype surrounding the track was built up to a fever pitch in the days surrounding the track's release. First, the robots Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter debuted a teaser trailer during the first week of Coachella 2013. Then, a similar trailer showing the robots, Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers performing the track premiered during an episode of Saturday Night Live.

The Internet exploded with potential leaks, loops and interpretations of the track. (Most were just loops of the teased section over and over but, for the record SONiC 102.9 in Edmonton came up with a pretty convincing fake.)

All of that lead up to the official release of the single and a public starved for tasty, French grooves (DP's last legitimate studio release was 2005's Human After All) readily gobbled it up in record-breaking numbers.

Daft Punk gave their thoughts on the song in an interview with Le Nouvel Observatuer. Their words (translated from French) are below:

"Pharrell Williams sings this song: it was natural to invite our album. It is a born performer, complete, which produces a lot of elegance. It has not always had the opportunity to show he could be a great singer, so that we can include it in the pantheon of legendary performers. There is no imaginary line that separate the great artists of the past and present who are all worse than before. We wanted to give the impression of being in a capsule in the studio, isolated from the world. One can believe in 1978, but our idea is to travel this music in the present and in the future, see what happens and see if this enthusiasm is contagious."

Pharrell seemed equally excited to be on the track. He gave his opinion of working with the robots during a segment of The Collaborators, a video project wherein Daft Punk interview their Random Access Memories co-conspirators for their thoughts about working with the group:

"It's crazy because on two sides of the Atlantic, we were both in the same place," said Pharrell about the disco track.
