To fans, it would be hard to imagine "Iron Man" without Robert Downey Jr. And when Mel Gibson showed interest in directing "Iron Man 4," fans were delighted that they would finally see Downey in action once more. Tony Stark once said that he would he happy to reprise his role if "Iron Man 4" would be directed by his friend, Mel Gibson. But according to another interview, Robert said that the third Iron Man would be his last and "Captain America: Civil War" would BE the sequel. Will the veteran Avenger change his mind?

According to Movie News Guide, Mel Gibson showed positive interest in directing "Iron Man 4." Mel was interviewed by Total Film and he said that directing "Iron Man" might be fun saying: "You'd have to figure out a way to be different with that." His statement showed that he expressed his interest in directing the sequel but he has not confirmed that this would happen.

But despite Gibson not yet confirming if he is on board or not, "Captain America: Civil War" won't be the last time fans would see Robert Downey Jr. in the big screen.

Iron Man will still make a cameo in "Spider Man: Homecoming" and of course in the much-awaited Avengers sequel "Avengers: Infinity War" which will be released in two parts.

GamenGuide also reported Mel Gibson's interest in directing "Iron Man 4." Gibson once openly criticized Marvel for creating movies that were too violent without any conscience. Fans could therefore expect a less violent and tamer Tony Stark if the "Blood Father" star would direct the film.

Mel Gibson actually has a love hate relationship with Marvel. He is good friends with Downey who has resurrected his career through Marvel and yet he has turned down a role in "Thor." His latest movie "Hacksaw Ridge" was up against "Doctor Strange" in cinemas and this was one of the reasons he said that Marvel movies were too violent.
