Admittedly, I'm no fan of Thom Yorke (hold all arrows and shunning until the end of the article) but his recent comments alongside fellow Atoms for Peace member Nigel Godrich are pretty funny. The duo bashed electronic dance music (EDM) and pop in a recent interview for Rolling Stone.

Never one to just come out and say what they mean- that wouldn't be needlessly complex enough- the duo put their hatred of EDM into an analogy about fashion. After a long talk about the DJs and producers that Yorke actually likes, Godrich drops this gem.

"Electronic music is really weird right now, because it is bleeding into the mainstream, but, at the same time, it's fashion, you know? You have this sort of avant-garde end of it - the haut couture sort of thing he's talking about, especially in smaller clubs and smaller scenes, like the scene in L.A. around Low End Theory. But what you end up with in the mainstream is horrible - this distillation of the DJ thing."

Godrich went on to call David Guetta and Calvin Harris "the H&M" of dance music. Yorke refers to them as "scrubbed clean" versions of what's really edgy.

Yorke also claimed that he has trouble understanding the amount of money that some DJs make.

"I have to say, I don't like a lot of the DJ culture that goes around it," Yorke said. "I don't like this sort of, get paid a lot of money and the DJ comes and he just fucking does his set. Which is fine, 'cause he knows it works and he's worked hard at it - but sometimes, you're like, 'Really? What, really?'"

During the interview it came up that Atoms for Peace were beaten out for number 1 on the Billboard charts by Bruno Mars, which led Yorke to say "Yeah, Bruno Mars. Who the fuck is Bruno Mars?"

Check out the interview in full via Rolling Stone.

What do you think about the statements of Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich of  Atoms For Peace? Are DJs overpaid? Does Bruno Mars deserve scorn? Is modern EDM trash?

Sound off in the comments.

(Also, you can loose those arrows now.)
