Ron Glass of 'Barney Miller' Died at the Age of 71

Actor Ron Glass who starred in the popular television series, 'Barney Miller' as Detective Ron Harris, died last November 25 at the age of 71.

USA Today reported that the actor died last Friday due to respiratory failure according to his agent Jeffrey Leavett. "Ron was a private, gentle and caring man, and a long time friend actor,"Leavett said at The Associated Press.

Leavett further added, "He was an absolute delight to watch on screen. Words cannot adequately express my sorrow."

According to Boston Herald, Ron Glass is a handsome, prolific character actor which is best known for his role as the gregarious and sardonic detective in "Barney Miller," a long-time running cop comedy. Aside from "Barney Miller," Ron Glass also starred in "Firefly" and several other movies.

Ron Glass worked on several acting careers on television and films while a student of Bachelor degree in drama and literature at the University of Evansville. His last project was on 2005 film sequel "Serenity" and in a science-fiction series "Firefly" where he played as Derrial Book.

In his role in "Barney Miller," Ron Glass was one of the few generally normal characters who contributed to the shows' popularity. The series and his character as Detective Ron Harris made the New York City Police precinct filled with oddballs. His co-actors are Hal Linden as the precinct Captain Barney Miller, Abe Vigoda as Detective Phil Fish and Max Galas Detective Stan Wojo Wojciehowics.

Most notable among his accomplishments in the Entertainment industry is when the TV show  "Barney Miller" won two Golden Globe Awards as well as two Emmy Awards for Best Comedy Series from 1975 until 1982 of airing.

Ron Glass role in "Barney Miller" also earned an Emmy Nomination in the Supporting Actor category. More so, he had some numerous appearances on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in 2014 and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the same year.

Ron Glass was raised in Evansville, Indiana and graduated from the University of Evansville where he served as the University's Board of Trustees since 2008. He also became the chairman of the Evansville African American Museum and was a recipient to the key of the city.

The director of the Museum, Lu Porter said that several artifacts of Ron Glass from his acting career are on display at the museum including his police badge from "Barney Miller." Ron Glass was one of the greatest actors with the laugh that was beyond infectious. He will always be remembered by the people he made happy with his jokes.
