Pearl Jam will be one of the inductees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2017 ceremony this coming April.

Joining the 90s grunge act on the list of 2017 inductees are classic rock ballad act Journey, English progressive act Yes, and folk rock artist Joan Baez. Trailblazing hip-hop artist Tupac Shakur who died in 1996 will also be inducted. Nile Rodgers of Chic will also be presented with an Award for Musical Excellence, according to Rolling Stone.

It was mentioned in the article that Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready had this to say in an earlier interview with the magazine.

"It would be a great honor. I would be happy about it. But you never know. I don't know their process and how they pick. It could be a couple of years from now. I mean, Cheap Trick took forever to get in. So did Deep Purple. But we're aware of it," McCready revealed his enthusiasm.

Meanwhile, David Abbruzzese who manned the drums for Pearl Jam will not be included on the list of inductees. This bypass however, wasn't taken lightly by the drummer who was behind Ten to the recording of 1994's Vitalogy, according to Consequence of Sound.

Artists are eligible for the hall of fame 25 years after the release of their debut recording. Honorees are chosen by more than 900 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation voters, along with a single ballot containing the aggregate results of the annual online fan vote. Journey finished at the top of the nominations of in that poll. With ELO, Yes, Pearl Jam and the Cars completing the elite 5.

Since establishing this ballot for fans, the Hall of Fame has consistently welcomed the winner into its next class - including The Byrds, Rush, Stevie Ray Vaughan and The Jimi Hendrix Experience. In 1986, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its first group of inductees: Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, James Brown, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke and the Everly Brothers.
