'Object Tracking' technology patent by Microsoft to turn it to reality

Tired of losing your keys every time when you're about to go out? Perhaps you want to read comics or a book by Lang Leav but can't find your glasses anywhere? No worries then! Microsoft has just filed a technology patent to (possibly) integrate their HoloLens so that you won't have difficulties finding them anymore.

The patent is called "Object Tracking". As reported by CNET, the patent published on Thursday would bring advanced, automatic object tracking to augmented reality (a technology that lays a computer-generated image on a user's view of the real world, thus providing a composite view), which creates a completely unique digital experience that blends the real and virtual worlds into a smooth and continuous experience.

Microsoft's patent document implied that this advanced augmented reality would not only track you, the user, but also other objects in in your surroundings.

The patent also suggests that if the technology is integrated with their [Microsoft] HoloLens, it could also learn what objects the user wants it to track and what each item looks like. Microsoft also believes that there is strength in numbers and could let the system interact with other users to help one another.

"But how does it work?" you may ask. Well, as reported by Mail Online, the entire system would rely on a range of two-dimensional image sensors and/or depth sensors that would collect video data of the surrounding environment.

So if you're struggling to find lost your keys, wallet, your mobile device, or any other inanimate object, you just simply tell the headset to locate them using voice commands. Then, the cameras fitted on the device will begin to look around for them.

It is unclear though, whether Microsoft would begin to integrate this technology in their HoloLens devices or if they would even turn the technology into reality.
