Lamar Odom welcomes the new year with 'two of his favorite people'

For Lamar Odom, there's no better way to welcome the new year than by spending it with his "two favorite people."The 37-year-old NBA star took to Instagram after roughly seven months to share how he spent the opening of the year with his 18-year-old daughter Destiny and 16-year-old son Lamar, Jr.

Odom entered a rehab program last December after reportedly acknowledging that he needs help and he needs to get better for the sake of his kids. This came after his near fatal overdose in October 2015 which he attributed to personal problems.

In an interview on The Doctors before entering rehab, he spoke up about the incident and expressed optimism on what this step would mean for his future.

For the first time, he admitted that his looming divorce from Khloe Kardashian at the time was one of the major demons he was battling, leading him to resort to drugs.

"I wasn't in a good place mentally, especially mentally before that incident happened. Me and my wife at the time were going through some things. I was in a dark place. They say everything happens for a reason, so I guess the reason is I'm here and I can tell the story," he said.

Last month, his rep released a statement about the athlete's decision to enter a rehab facility and cited the need for Odom to focus on himself and his kids in order to become the best father he can be. He also thanked his family and friends for the unconditional love and support through his ordeal.

In 2015, Odom made headlines when he was found unconscious in a Las Vegas brothel due to an overdose on cocaine. He remained in a coma for some time and woke up with some problems with short term memory loss.

Now, the star is looking to be in high spirits and focused on his goal of getting better, inspired by his children's support.

"No better way to end 2016 than with my two favorite people #TheOdoms #RichSoil," he captioned the photo. In two days since the post, the photo has received over 25,000 likes and earned close to a thousand comments wishing him well.
