CES 2017 to showcase 5G technology but rollout may not be immediate

According to a report by Mobile and Apps, the CES 2017 may well be a platform to showcase what these networks have achieved in case of laying the groundwork for this new wave of wireless technology.

It can be recalled that Verizon was the first to announce that it is planning to deploy the new technology commercially. One of its closest competitors, was not far behind in hyping up its own measures and said that it was already testing out the technology in Austin, Texas.

The wireless technology which is expected to speed up access and connectivity exponentially, is also being eyed by T-Mobile, which is already a leader in terms of download speed. In his keynote address, Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf  is expected to discuss how 5G technology will benefit consumers from various industries, Gizbot reported.

Ericsson will also showcase the advantages of the technology through roughly 30 product demos. "It's going to be a pretty big deal. It'll be the underlying technology of many of the things discussed at CES," Glenn Laxdal, who heads Ericsson's North American tech unit admitted.

Meanwhile, while most of the attention is centered around the new technology, CNet  tech analyst Roger Cheng cautions that while many companies are already raring jump into the 5G train, it may still take a couple of years before the technology fully replaces the current 4G networks.

For one, he cited that the standards have not yet been set for the technology and it may well be 2018 before structured guidelines are in place.  He also said that it may take while to fully shift from wired networks to fixed mobile broadbands, but network companies remain optimistic that headway will be made during the trials.
