CES 2017: LG Launches Smart Refrigerator with Amazon's Alexa and WebOS interface

Smart appliances have been in the market for quite some time around but this time LG has put their foot forward by launching a new smart refrigerator called InstaView. The voice commands in this refrigerator will be handled by Amazon's Alexa voice assistant and the smart features are powered by WebOS.

As Slashgear reports, LG has crammed WiFi, WebOs, Amazon Alexa, a transparent touchscreen, voice and smartphone control all in a single fridge. The refrigerator is one of the best examples of Internet Of Things and it will communicate with other smart devices.

Also, LG has decided to launch all its 2017 home appliances with WiFi technology so we might see the refrigerator communicating with an oven. The refrigerator features a clear window in one door so that you can see what is inside without opening the door. This window is actually a 29-inch touchscreen running a custom WebOS based interface.

TheVerge reports that the refrigerator is able to play music, shop online and lookup recipes. The integration of Amazon's virtual assistant, Alexa, has severely increased the productivity and versatility of the product and this is the first product to feature a virtual assistant. The voice commands are taken care of by Alexa which is a much simpler way of interaction compared to touchscreen as you can simply ask your fridge to play music and check weather.

The WebOS powered touchscreen has its own set of apps and it can remind about birthdays and anniversaries, manage calendars and even show recipes. The SmartTag menu allows users to add tags to the screen to indicate which foods are stored inside. One of smartest feature of this fridge is the ability to check contents of the fridge remotely. A 2MP camera super-wide lens camera takes photos from different angles which are accessible via smartphone.

The company has still not detailed the pricing and availability of this smart refrigerator however considering the features, the refrigerator will definitely not be cheap.
