North America-based Panasonic recently announced the integration of their subsidiary company - Panasonic Automative with Qualcomm.

According Android Police, the two companies are working together to develop a next-generation Android-based in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system. The new system comes equipped with Android 7.0 features. This is aimed towards providing drivers with a unified experience across an automaker's entire vehicle line-up.

The users can now adjust for different applications, screen sizes and resolutions. Moreover, the system comes with an adaptive interface design that not only results to be cost-saving but also allows users to optimise their system engineering investments. Owners are even given the option of customising the infotainment system.

The system integrates Qualcomm Snapdragon 820m processor. The companies have designed the concept system to demonstrate how new connected services and applications will deliver a safety-focused and intuitive driving experience to consumers. It will further feature an integrated X12 LTE modem supporting up to 600 Mbps downlink and 150 Mbps uplink speeds.

Furthermore, the system comes equipped with a custom-built quad-core Qualcomm Kryo CPU, Qualcomm Hexagon 680 DSP, Qualcomm Adreno 530 GPU for video processing capabilities and support for multiple high-definition displays.

Auto News further reported that Panasonic and Qualcomm plan on showcasing their latest IVI system that is built on Android features at the CES event too.

It's interesting to note that the move comes after rival Samsung successfully acquires Harman International in November. It appears like consumer electronics companies are striving towards increasing their commitment towards infotainment space. This section is gradually become a valuable business as vehicles are becoming increasingly connected and autonomous.

Tech companies can slowly be seen as having a longer dominance on the technologies that run on the road. Panasonic's concept anticipates demand for a more flexible system. The concept based on the latest version of Android Auto and Qualcomm's Snapdragon Chip is quite promising.
