Blue has added two more headphones to its lineup: Ella, a planar magnetic headphone; and Saddie, which represents the next generation of mobile fidelity or "Mo-Fi".

As reported by The Verge, planar magnetic headphones work by pushing a thin diaphragm to generate sound, instead of moving voice coils and cones, as most dynamic drivers usually do. Planar technology is considered by most to offer more accuracy, but also commands a price premium, which is what tends to keep it niche.

Ella, Blue's new top-of-the-line model that costs about $700, is more expensive than any of Blue's other headphones, yet it is still one of the cheapest in the market with planar magnetic technology. Ella has a square 50mm planar drivers Blue claims offer the high fidelity that planar headphones can provide without forfeiting the power of dynamic drivers. This is because of Ella's design, which includes a built-in 250mW amplifier that Blue notes, a first for the planar magnetics market. It will be available for preorder by the end of this month.

Saddie, on the other hand, is more like an update compared to other headphones Blue has announced during this year's CES held in Las Vegas. Blue claims that the Sadie has been fine-tuned further for improved sound. Like other Mo-Fi headphones, Sadie also offers a built-in amplifier and custom-tuned 50mm dynamic drivers, and slight changes in design. Saddie will cost about $400 by the time it's released sometime this month.

Both the Ella and Saddie's new, redesigned headband system, users will experience reduced weight and bulk unlike other Blue headphones.

According to What Hi-Fi, both models offer three interesting different modes for the amplifier: On, meaning the amp is active, On+, activates a low-frequency enhancement mode to boost bass, and Off, passive mode that disables the on-board amplifier if you want to use an external amp or when the battery dies. All in all, both Ella and Sadie look almost identical.

So what do you think about Ella and Sadie? If you're a complete audiophile would you buy these planar magnetic headphones despite the price? Let us know and leave a comment below!
