'No Man's Sky' hype the reason why we know almost nothing of Mass Effect: Andromeda

"Mass Effect: Andromeda" is quite a huge game. It comes out in about two and a half months yet we still know nothing about it. Will it be the same format as the old Mass Effect games?

Sure, we've seen our fair share of teaser trailers: pre-alpha gameplay 4K resolution footage for the PS4 Pro, a trailer with all the combat and an itty bit of story, and a new trailer showing the menus and a bit more fighting. We also know that it will be set in the same universe, but in another galaxy. We could also add that in the gameplay, you will still have a crew, a ship, and Mako. But in the end, we still have no idea whatsoever of what the game really is.

But why? Why don't we have any idea of what the game will be? Why is Bioware keeping all those precious information to themselves? Forbes has quite a theory - that this is because of No Man's Sky.

Forbes says that No Man's Sky drowned in an ocean of its own, endless hype. Many games, big and small, have probably learned from this example, believing that it's probably better to say little or nothing at all than to go all out promising the best X genre game ever and listing off feature after feature in great detail.

And with this, Bioware is now worried about people associating Mass Effect with No Man's Sky, since both the games have their similarities. No Man's Sky ended up being one of the biggest let-downs for most players and is now held up as an example of what not to do when developing and releasing an ambitious game.

Ultimately, this is quite the right call for Bioware to avoid comparison with No Man's Sky. Technology Market says Mass Effect can get away with hiding an enormous amount of its gameplay and content because the name is going to sell no matter what since it's a pretty huge franchise.

It's probably a good thing that Bioware is moving away from the tremendous hype-cycle of developers - showing off loads of early footage that ends up looking worse eventually or promising features that never actually come.

In the end, all we can do is wait for two and a half months until the game is released and hope that it would be one, kickass game.
