Volkswagen unveils ID Buzz concept vehicle for 2022 at Detroit Auto Show

German Automaker Volkswagen unveiled its new concept called as Volkswagen ID Buzz in Detroit motor show recently. This new concept is inspired on its previous launched Microbus in 1950.

According to Drive, Volkswagen has tentative plans to make this concept ID Buzz a reality on roads in 2022. It is reported that the Volkswagen ID Buzz vehicle uses new electric car architecture and accommodates a seating up to eight people.

It is reported that ID Buzz is one f the five electric models being developed by Volkswagen. The other vehicles in the list include four-seat ID hatchback that was revealed at last year's Paris motor show, VW's crossover-style SUV, saloon and a sports car.

"The Volkswagen brand's big electric offensive begins in the year 2020 with completely new vehicle architecture. That is when we will be launching a new generation of fully connected, all-electric vehicles on the market. By 2025, we want to be selling one million of these vehicles annually. We are making electric mobility the new trademark of Volkswagen." Volkswagen brand Chairman Herbert Diess said.

According to Auto Car, the new concept from Volkswagen features two electric motors. Out of the two motors, one motor is mounted within the short nose section and one within the rear axle assembly. The positions of the two motors make provide Volkswagen ID Buzz with the four-wheel drive capability.

T is reported that each electric motor in the vehicle will deliver a maximum of 201bhp. Also, it is reported that the combined system output reaches to 369bhp.

Volkswagen claims that its ID Buzz concept has a theoretical acceleration of 0-62mph time in just 5.0sec. However, the top speed of the vehicle is limited to 100mph in order to protect the battery charge.

The battery that will be incorporated into the vehicle will be 111kWh lithium-ion battery mounted in the floor, the new model is claimed to have a zero-emissions range of up to 372 miles on the European test cycle. The battery can be charged to 80% in 30 minutes and can go up to a range of up to 298 miles. 

It is reported that the Volkswagen ID Buzz also features the latest in autonomous driving technology that allows the driver to retract the touch-pad-equipped on steering wheel and make use of a seat that swivels 180deg to face the rear, in what is described as "noncritical driving conditions". The company is also developing the so-called ID Pilot mode and is reported to be introduced in 2025.
