Hard core fans of the Japanese anime Ghost in the Shell will be psyched to know that the original movie from 1995 will be re-released this February in 110 theaters in the United States.

According to a report by Deadline, Lionsgate, the studio that will release the Hollywood live action version of the movie in March, is collaborating with Funimation Films to bring the film to theaters for a limited release.

In particular, the limited release will be a two day affair only from February 7 to 8 across 110 theaters in the US. The original movie will be shown in its original Japanese version with English subtitles on the first day while the second day will show the English dubbed version. The limited screening is expected to bring fresh interest into the Scarlett Johansson starrer that will hit theaters on March 31.

"'Ghost in the Shell' is truly a seminal work in anime cinema and it helped firmly establish a market for the genre with U.S. movie audiences. We're excited to be partnering with Lionsgate to bring the original 'Ghost in the Shell' movie back to U.S. theaters." Gen Fukunaga, Funimation founder and chief executive said in a statement posted by LA Times.

Aside from the limited run of the original movie, Lionsgate is also gearing for the release of a deluxe Blu-ray and DVD collector's edition of original movie in its remastered version starting March 7.

Ghost in the Shell, which was directed by Mamoru Oshii cemented its status in pop culture because of its perfectly balanced realistic elements coupled with its futuristic elements.

It also served as inspiration for the Wachowskis' successful The Matrix franchise and other future themed films.

It was reported that after Lana and Andy Wachowski saw the cyberpunk anime, they said they wanted to do it in live action and liberally borrowed inspiration from digital typography and the use of ports to jack into a person's neck. These elements were credited to the anime in The Making of The Matrix through side by side comparisons.
