Carolyn Creswell: The ‘Muesli Queen’ with business worth over $60M

Carolyn Creswell started her muesli business by buying out the company she worked for around $1000 AUD. Today, her business value is more than $60 million. Her story is an inspiration for many.

Carolyn was on the verge of being dropped out from her job only when she was 18 years old. She made a wise decision at that time which leaped her career and made her the "Muesli Queen". All this was in 1992 when a husband and her wife decided to put the business up for sale. Carolyn decided to buy out the business she loved. Eventually, Carolyn with her friend and co-worker Manya Van Aker took over that business with their savings for just around $1000 Australian Dollars as reported by BBC.

They named the new business with their initials "Carman's", combining first three letters of their names. However, they encountered hurdles in running the business which made Manya quit it just two years after they bought it. Carolyn, however, continued her hard work and in 1997, the company got its first lucky streak when Coles, which is the seconds largest retail chain in Australia started to stock their muesli. This was a milestone in company's success.

As of today, Carolyn's business is worth $88M AUD. She is known as "Muesli Queen" in Australia. The company's breakfast cereals and muesli are being sold by more than 3000 outlets across the country and exported to more than 32 countries, reports HuffingtonPost. Carolyn says, "I wasn't afraid of hard work," says Carolyn, now 42. "[But] the first few years were really hard. If I could have given it away I would have."

Carolyn is now living her entrepreneurship dream.

"Work out your niche and align it with your passion. Focus on doing a few things really well as opposed to trying to do everything," she said.
