To make things absolutely clear - 'Evil Dead' actor Bruce Campbell is NOT dead, contrary to rumors currently floating around on the web. The beloved cult film star is just the latest celebrity to fall victim to the morbid online death hoax. What convenient timing - considering the highly-anticipated 2013 remake of "Evil Dead" just hit theaters earlier this month. But 54-year-old Campbell is indeed alive and well - in fact, he recently hit up Twitter to joke about his own cyber demise, tweeting "Sad that I am dead. I'll miss me!"

Here's the bogus obit originally posted by Global Associated News that claims Campbell tragically "fell to his death" in New Zealand -

Actor - Bruce Campbell Falls To His Death In New Zealand

THIS STORY IS STILL DEVELOPING...

Actor Bruce Campbell died while filming a movie in New Zealand early this morning - April 26, 2013 (obviously the website generates false up-to-the-date deaths).

Preliminary reports from New Zealand Police officials indicate that the actor fell more than 60 feet to his death on the Kauri Cliffs while on-set. Specific details are not yet available.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. (UTC/GMT +12).

Additional details and information will be forthcoming.

New Zealand, in recent years has grown in populariaty as a backdrop for Hollywood producers because of it's scenic and rugged landscape. Recent movies filmed in New Zealand include The Lord Of the Rings, King Kong, and The Chronicles Of Narnia.

Several fans immediately responded to the "devastating" news on Twitter:

@JasperPlanNine: "JAW HAS DROPPED. RIP BRUCE CAMPBELL."

@GroovyBruce: "I hope the news that I'm hearing about Bruce Campbell dying isn't true... If so, sad news indeed. RIP to the King :'(."

@JoshMcCanless: "I hope this whole RIP Bruce Campbell thing is a nasty joke."

‏@mv7point0: "Damn. I hate to say this... RIP Bruce Campbell. I'm shocked and saddened to hear this news. You will be missed, sir."

Thankfully, Global Associated News is a PRANK website that reports on FAKE news - Campbell is not dead. The popular television director even debunked the rumors on Twitter himself:

@GroovyBruce: "@bellsbaybee: seen this? #sadtimes (link). Sad that I am dead. I'll miss me. RIP BC =SNIFF=."

Yup, definitely still alive and kicking!

As Mstars suggested before (regarding Eddie Murphy, Blake Shelton, Cristiano Ronaldo, Adam Sandler, Shaggy, Mickey Rourke, John Waters,Lil Wayne, etc), fans should make sure that they get all their info from credible sources before going crazy on social media... spreading fake celebrity death rumors are exactly what the hoaxsters want!

And in honor of the "King" of "Evil Dead" -
