Samsung has officially started rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat update to their Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones. The software update is also expected to hit soon to the Galaxy Note 5, S6 Edge+, S6 and S6 Edge smartphones.

Phone Arena has reported that Samsung was rumored to release the official Android 7.0 Nougat update to Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge smartphone variants on the 17th of January. However, the South Korean tech giant has already begun rolling out the software update. Beta testers have reported that they have been getting notifications for the Android 7.0 update.

Beta testers have also reported that the update has a size of 215 MB, and this is of a smaller size since they already have the "beta" version of the Android 7.0 Nougat. However, other users who haven't tested the beta version of the software will get a much larger file size for the update, and are expected to arrive to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones later this month.

The Android 7.0 Nougat brings about 20 new features. The most notable and likeable improvements according to CNET are: Bundled Notifications, that groups related alerts into a tidy package you can expand and collapse with just a single tap; Direct Replies, you can now either reply to messages straight from the alert when it pops up on top of the screen, or from the bundled notifications but is limited only to texts and chat applications; Doze on the Go, get huge battery savings from a sleeping phone in your pocket or bag; Double Multitasking, you can now double-tap the Recents button to quickly toggle between your last two apps. There is also a split screen mode that puts two apps on a screen at the same time; 72 New Emojis are now added, including skin tone options and genders; and lastly Daydream VR compatibility which is now built in into Nougat.

The update also brings users the latest Android security patch for this month. There is, however, no confirmation for when the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update will be coming out to Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users.
