The world mourned many celebrities that passed away during the Christmas season in 2016. One of them was Carrie Fisher who portrayed General Leia in the new sequels. The films' producers have said that, in light of her passing, her character will not appear in "Star Wars: Episode 9". Meanwhile, Mark Hamill tricked fans with a photo of a Jedi rabbit.

"Star Wars: Episode 8" will feature Leia's last appearance

"Star Wars: Episode 8" had just finished production. Mercifully, 60-year-old Carrie Fisher had wrapped up the film before her unfortunate passing. Fans everywhere mourned the strong actress who struggled with addiction and mental problems for years. Similarly, her role as the courageous Princess Leia will be missed.

Collider reports that Fisher's character was slated to appear in the final film of the new trilogy, which began with "The Force Awakens". General Leia had a very big role in the last film, considering her son, Kylo Ren, is the new villain. The "Star Wars: Episode 8" plot has not been revealed yet, but it the producers said it will pick up immediately with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) meeting Rey (Daisy Ridley).

The fates of the other characters will also come into play, as well as whether Rey will become a Jedi at the end of "Star Wars: Episode 8". A report from the film's official website revealed that the production team has no plans of using digital puppetry to include Fisher's character in the last film. This could very well mean that the plot will include General Leia's death off-screen.
