Trekkies who have been waiting with bated breath for the "Star Trek: Discovery" series will be disappointed to learn that the CBS Access show has been faced with delays anew. Unfortunately, it has now taken a huge step back as the projected May airing has been completely scrapped and the series now has an indefinite airing date.

This was not the first time the series encountered conflict in the schedule. The series has originally been planned for a January release before it was delayed to May. Now that the date has been reclassified as "flexible," fans are worried about whether CBS plans to continue the project after all, Space reported.

According to a report  by The Hollywood Reporter,  fans should not fret so much because the project is still a go. Production will still proceed as scheduled and preparations are under way to create the fresh installment to the epic franchise.

A statement by CBS explained their move to scrap the May target as a positive move. The network cited that because the show will air on CBS: Access, CBS's VOD platform, it removes the constraints of working within a specific the seasonal premieres like regular television shows.

"Production on "Star Trek: Discovery" begins next week. We love the cast, the scripts and are excited about the world the producers have created," the statement quoted.

"True Blood" alum James Frain has recently been added to the cast to play Spock's father Sarek, a character who is familiar to Star Trek fans because he has been introduced in previous installments in the franchise and previously played by Mark Lenard and Ben Cross.

Also among members of the powerful cast is "The Walking Dead's" Sonequa Martin-Green who will take on the role of a lieutenant commander in the series. While some fans may relate this with Sasha's survival for the seventh season of the zombie apocalypse series, production has already wrapped for the AMC show, freeing up her schedule for the sci fi franchise, The Verge reported.

The rest of the cast are nothing to scoff at as Michelle Yeoh, who will play a starfleet army, Anthony Rapp, Doug Jones Chris Obi, Shazad Latif and Mary Chieffo have also been tapped to join the 13-episode Star Trek series.

The new series will feature the iconic ship the Enterprise: U.S.S. Discovery whose mission to explore new worlds and civilizations in space.
