DJI has announced a total of 11 products in 2016 making it one of the busiest years for the company but now, less than a year after its release, the company has announced that it has stopped production of the DJI Phantom 4.

According to a report by The Digital Circuit, the year was highlighted with the announcement and releases of products like the Phantom 4, Phantom 4 Pro and Phantom Pro Plus which first introduced features like obstacle avoidance and tracking, as well and integrated daylight bright monitor,

DJI also introduced the Osmo Mobile which featured a gimbal with intelligent software designed for smartphones. 2016 also saw the unveiling of the company's first foldable drone, the Mavic Pro, The high end Inspire 2 which is targeted for filmmaking, the Matrice 600 Hexacopter, the handheld Ronin MX, X5S, X4S, Zenmuse Z30 and CrystalSky which all features quality outputs for professional use.

In an announcement by the company, it explained that they will no longer continue with the Phantom 4 line and limit its market to its remaining stocks from earlier production.  DJI similarly ended production for the drone's predecessors, DJI Phantom 3 Advanced and Professional, reported We Talk UV.

The dealers were recently advised that the company is temporarily going on a 2-3 week break for production leading up to the Chinese Lunar New Year and that this will result in limited stocks for the Mavic Pro and Mavic Pro Limited.

"Once DJI get the Mavic Pro production sorted out, the consumer drones will be limited to the Mavic Pro, the Phantom 4 Pro and the Phantom 4 Pro Plus," the letter explained.

According to the same report by the Digital Circuit, the decision to stop production of the lower end lines may be due to outdated technology as well as to focus the drone market on current products like the Mavic Pro, the Phantom 4 Pro and the Phantom 4 Pro Plus.

The Phantom 4 has posted the shortest lifespan among the company's products. The Phantom 4 was only in production for 322 days after it was released in March 1, last year.

Existing stocks are expected to last for a couple of months still.
