It looks like the Galaxy 8 won't make an appearance in this year's MWC. Samsung has pushed the release of the premium handset indefinitely.

Samsung's President of Mobile Koh Dong-jin told Reuters that unlike previous Galaxy S smartphones, the Galaxy S8 will not be ready for launch at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) that will be held in Barcelona next month.

Koh never revealed when the tech giant would be ready to launch the Galaxy S8, but the company's reason behind the decision was their pledge to enhance product safety following the investigation into the causes of fires with their premium Note 7 handsets.

Apparently, the batteries were the cause of the Note 7 incidents. The battery components of the phone did not fit in the battery's casing causing the battery cell's upper right corner to be crumpled by the casing. Samsung also blamed the poor welding of the batteries at the battery manufacturer. All of this caused the batteries to short circuit and eventually explode.

Koh also added at the press briefing, "The lessons of this incident are deeply reflected in our culture and process. Samsung Electronics will be working hard to regain consumer trust." So far, 96 percent of the 3.06 million Note 7 units sold worldwide to customers have already been recalled by Samsung.

Forbes says that this is a good move from Samsung. This delay does not show that Samsung is not ready to release the S8 to the global market but rather, the company is not rushing. Rushing the release like what they did to the Galaxy Note 7 came at a great cost.

While the tech giant has not set a release date for the Galaxy S8, rumors say that the device will be unveiled in March and will go on sale on April 18.
