HBO's "Game of Thrones" may have already finished covering "Winds of Winter," the sixth book in George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series but fans expecting a the release of the long awaited book should manage their expectations better as Martin himself is unsure that he will finish it by this year.

While fan theories circulate online, the release date of Winds of Winter still hangs in the balance as details grow more scarce about George R.R. Martin's progress with the sixth book.

"Not done yet, but I've made progress. But not as much as I hoped a year ago, when I thought to be done by now. I think it will be out this year. (But hey, I thought the same thing last year),"Martin addressed a fan's question on the thread of his Live Blog.

Since the release is unsure, details are also not set in stone. This means that that the book will follow the events of television show. It may actually carry a more bitter fate for Jon Snow, the newly proclaimed King of the North.

According to fan theory posted by Reddit user ShoppingPenguin57, the television version made it too easy for Jon Snow to be accepted and embraced by the Northern Lords and his bannermen as the new King of the North, especially since he was the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, a duty that is considered by the people of Westeros as a sacred oath.

Deserters are typically punished by death based on the rules but Jon may be considered a unique case since he was already killed by his comrades for the crime of treason, and only brought back to life by the the Red Woman through the power of the Lord of Light.

The fan theory hinted that the books may take a more realistic approach to the declaration as more opposition is expected among some of the noblemen before he is accepted as their leader.

HBO is poised to release the first half of its two season adaptation of the seventh and final book in the series "A Dream of Spring" this year.
