The "Legion" TV series released a video trailer that looks painfully complicated to describe, but the idea is simple enough to follow. The show revolves around David Haller, who is diagnosed with schizophrenia and later on finds out that he is, in fact, a mutant whose powers manifest in different personalities who see different realities.

"Legion" TV series is bound to be a trippy show

"X-Men" comic book fans know that this David is Charles Xavier's son, but the "Legion" TV series will only have a faint connection to the X-Men films. Noah Hawley, creator of "Fargo" is at the helm of this new show at FX and he told Variety that he is making use of the "X-Men" alternate universes, so this story will not be tapping into the regular super-powered humans fighting against the bad guys.

Instead, it will be a look into how schizophrenia can be a source of power. Fans who have seen the trailer know that the show won't be superhero show in the same vein as "Arrow" or "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.". The "Legion" TV series will be depicting some psychedelic journey into how David (Dan Stevens) sees his world.

"Legion" TV series spoilers and air date

In other words, viewers who are hoping to see familiar X-Men characters on the FX show will have to tone down their expectations. However, considering that the show is titled "Legion", fans will no doubt see some very important characters pop up who will lead David into earning that moniker. In the comics, David is raised by his biological mother and stepfather, but later on, he gets help from Dr. Moira McTaggart, then Charles Xavier and the New Mutants.

"Legion" TV series spoilers reveal that most of his comic book backstory will be altered or dropped. IGN reviewed the first episode, where an adult David lives out most of his life at a psychiatric hospital. The publication also revealed that, while, "Legion" will not exhibit many X-Men or MCU references, it will expand on David's struggle with his illness and superpowers.

Fans expecting a more clear and linear episode will have to be careful, though. The show is geared towards making viewers see how David sees his ever-changing realities and it doesn't make sense all the time, which can work in the show's favor, considering the source material. The "Legion" TV series air date is on Feb. 8, 2017 on FX and will have eight episodes.
