The "Scarface" remake has found its leading man. Diego Luna of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" fame as Cassian Andor has been cast in the modern reboot of the iconic 1983 crime film of the same title.

New changes are set for the "Scarface" remake to reflect modern issues

The "Scarface" remake will have some changes and will slightly depart from Brian De Palma's 1983 film. Instead of a Cuban refugee (Al Pacino as Tony Montana), the lead will be an immigrant from Mexico and the story will take place in modern day Los Angeles instead of Miami.

The 1983 film itself was a remake of the 1932 gangster film "Scarface" or "Scarface: The Shame of the Nation". It was originally based on a book by Armitage Trail about the life of Al Capone. Independent reports that the slight changes in the "Scarface" remake will please viewers who will finally see a Latino actor fill in Tony Montana's character. Diego Luna's Cassian in "Rogue One" was important to the actor as a character with Mexican roots being depicted on the silver screen.

"Scarface" remake gains lead star but loses director

The 37-year-old "The Book of Life" actor was confirmed for the role on Monday. While this was certainly good news for the "Scarface" remake, one bad news surfaced recently. The movie's director, Antoine Fuqua, stepped down from the helm, The Hollywood Reporter revealed.

Fuqua had been handling the project since last summer, but he left the director's chair to film the sequel to "The Equalizer" starring Denzel Washington. The two films had conflicting schedules so Fuqua was forced to choose. Like "The Batman" dilemma in which Ben Affleck stepped down to focus on his role, Universal is still looking for its new "Scarface" remake director.

Since the studio is still pushing for a spring release, the announcements might be happening soon. Luna is the only confirmed "Scarface" remake cast as of date. Fans are also excited to see who will take on the role of Elvira Hancock, a character that Michelle Pfeiffer played in the 1983 film. This will be the second remake of the "Scarface" story.
