Tyler, The Creator Mountain Dew Commercial: 'Racist' Goat Ad Draws Attention To Soft Drink Again In Midst Of Lil Wayne-Emmet Till Controversy

The folks at Mountain Dew are probably hoping for a break at this point. Their latest Tyler, The Creator-made ad featuring Felicia the goat has drawn accusations of being racist.

The ad shows a white woman on crutches attempting to point out her attacker via a line-up. The line-up consists entirely of black men, with the exception of Felicia the goat.  According to descriptions of the video (it has been pulled from most outlets), the men in the lineup all had gold teeth, white t-shirts and other stereotypical attributes.

Dr. Boyce Watkins posted an article on yourblackworld.net calling the television spot "arguably the most racist commercial in history."

"Of course, in the world of Mountain Dew, every single suspect is black," Watkins wrote.  Not just regular black people, but the kinds of ratchety negroes you might find in the middle of any hip-hop minstrel show:  Gold teeth, "mean mugging," sun glasses wearing, white-t sportin, hard core n*ggaz ready to "get into some ol gangsta sh*t."  Apparently, this is the kind of ad you put out if you want to appeal to the black male demographic.

 The ad is, of course, a follow-up to another Tyler helmed commercial in which the goat assaults the white woman in the video (a waitress) for not giving him any more Mountain Dew. That commercial and this one both end with Felicia saying "You'll never catch me" as the waitress is too intimidated by the goat to make a proper identification.

This is the second sponsorship controversy that Mountain Dew has found itself in this week. The family of Emmett Till has called on the company to dismiss marquee spokesman Lil Wayne after comments he made during Future's "Karate Chop (Remix)." Weezy claimed he would "beat the p-sy up like Emmett Till" in the original version of the song (the offending lyric has since been removed by Sony). Emmett Till, of course, was a Chicago teenager whose brutal murder helped spark the Civil Rights Movement of the early 60s.
