Google Pursues Straightforward OEM Relationship With 'Designed with our friends at Google'

Google is getting ahead on the game and this time, it is taking a much broader influence. Reports have it that the company will be assisting OEMs with their new technologies.

Initially, many thought that Google is introducing its own brand of smartwatches. Others believed that it will introduce Nexus watches instead. However, per 9to5 Google, it has already been revealed that the smartwatch is LG-branded.

Yes, the device is from LG but it recognizes the American multinational technology company on its packaging. In the box printed with LG Watch Style is a label that reads "Designed with our friends at Google."

The report notes that it is difficult to gauge how Google and its OEM partnership will work. Google's forefront is the Pixel brand while Nexus is seemingly left for dead. Thus, it is quite confusing how the company will proceed.

Prior to LG, Google approached Huawei and offered it the Pixel phones. However, since the former wants a more straightforward OEM relationship and the latter wants its branding on the phone, Huawei turned the offer down.

Perhaps, Google had decided to take the non-Pixel partnership instead as most companies also want to retain their brands. Thus, we are seeing an LG-brand smartwatch but with additional "Designed with our friends at Google" label.

Tech2 added that with Google's partnership to OEMs it is clear that the company now covers its software and hardware. The collaboration is expected to work since Google can help the brand customize their hardware to cater the software requirement.

A faster software update is also expected given that the product is already tied up with Google. In addition to this, the company might add Assistant integration and a smarter AI [artificial intelligence].
