On Monday, "Jane the Virgin" Season 3 finally put an end to all of Michael's sufferings. In Episode 10 titled "Chapter Fifty Four," Brett Dier's beloved character was finally killed off. However, fans weren't very happy about the decision to remove him from the hit show.

After getting shot in the finale of "Jane the Virgin" Season 2, Michael survived. While he stayed in the hospital for some time, he proved to be stronger than his trials. Jane (Gina Rodriguez) stayed with him through all this. Fans are now wondering if the character will ever return to "Jane the Virgin" in future installments.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Brett Dier explained what he went through after keeping his character's death to himself. He said that it was hard but he believes Michael was given enough time to be himself in "Jane the Virgin." As for Michael's potential return to the series, the actor clarified that Michael is "really dead."

On the other hand, Brett Dier is hoping that Michael's presence will still be felt in "Jane the Virgin" even if the character has been killed off. Dier hopes that through Jane's memories, Michael will live on. The same is true for "Jane the Virgin" showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman.

According to Variety, the showrunner took to Tumblr to defend "Jane the Virgin" for its shocking decision. Urman first explained that "Jane the Virgin" is just like any other telenovela. Everything happens on TV. Fans on social media seem to refuse to accept that a character as loved as Michael has been killed off.

Jennie Snyder Urman explained that she thought Brett Dier's character would be killed off earlier. On the other hand, she reminded fans that Michael and Jane shared a lot of "firsts" in "Jane the Virgin." She then ended the long open letter with a tribute to Brett Dier, noting that Michael will surely be missed "in Jane's world."

"Jane the Virgin" Season 3 airs every Monday on The CW. The series will resume next Monday and will pick up three years after Michael's tragic passing. Stay tuned for more updates.
