Nvidia Shield tablet which was released in 2015 with Android 5.0 has now been updated to Android V 7.0 by the company. The update for Nvidia Shield is dubbed as SHIELD Experience 5.0.

The new software upgrade brings support for new Nvidia Shield Controller, better power consumption, and improved notifications. This update speeds up the first generation Nvidia Shield tablet so that users have a better gaming experience. The software update also upgrades the operating system to Android 7.0 Nougat.

The software upgrade 5.0 adds support for the new Nvidia Shield Controller which ships with new SHIELD TV 2017, reported The Verge. The update includes a slew of features such as multitasking, notification changes, and a better performing JIT compiler. The updated is available for Nvidia Shield Tablet and Nvidia Shield Tablet K1.

The main features in the update are - Split-Screen which can run two apps side by side in portrait or landscape modes, Quick Switch which switches back to the last opened app by double tapping the Overview button. The update for Nvidia Shield also brings improved notifications and users can reply to the messages directly from the notifications, reported AnandTech.

Android 7.0 for Nvidia Shield has a built in Doze function which makes the phone use less power when the phone is idle by hibernating the apps. The update brings Unicode 9 emojis which enhance user experience. The new Data saver mode in the update for Nvidia Shield limits access to cellular data for background applications. The users can also change the display and font size to improve the readability or screen space.

The update is available for download starting today and it also includes a rewards program which is an exclusive loyalty program for Nvidia Shield owners. The update, however, is only available for the Wi-Fi version of the tablet and the update for the LTE version will be released soon after it gets the carrier certification.
