"American Idol" aired its Top 4 results show on Thursday and it was probably the most intriguing, suspenseful broadcast of Season 12. In the end, Amber Holcomb earned the fewest number of votes and went home.

Last week's 38 million votes were added to this week's totals, which made for some interesting drama as the night progressed. Angie Miller and Candice Glover were the top two vote getters and advanced to the final three, which left Amber and Kree Harrison in trouble.

Candice's spot in the top two this week was no surprise as both of her performances on Wednesday were nothing short of stellar. The audience clearly recognized that and sent her to the final three. Angie, too, earned her place.

Though both were worthy contenders, Amber got the axe and, for her final song on the "American Idol" stage, performed an emotional rendition of Whitney Houston's "I Believe in You and Me." The song stopped when her father, also in tears and escorted by Ryan Seacrest, came up on stage and embraced his daughter.

Earlier in the night, the four girls performed "Crazy in Love" with a big band twist. Season 7 champion David Cook sang his new single "Laying Me Low" and Harry Connick Jr., the previous night's guest mentor, performed his own new single called "Every Man Should Know."

Will.i.am also did something resembling a musical performance with "Bang Bang," the track he contributed to The Great Gatsby soundtrack.

So Candice, Angie and Kree made it to the Top 3, which means each will get to see their loved ones during the hometown visits next week.
