The DC Comics Extended Universe is expanding its stable of heroes as Warner Bros. confirms more solo outings for heroes and villains. It was recently revealed that the studio is making a "Nightwing" solo movie, and the titular role is now up for grabs.

The "Nightwing" movie has already enlisted "The Lego Batman Movie" director Chris McKay to helm the film. In an interview with the Shanlian on Batman podcast team, he revealed some interesting details about the upcoming superhero.

McKay described Nightwing as a different hero compared to most characters in DC. Unlike Batman, Nightwing does not come from a privileged family and is not the brooding and angry type of hero. As a matter of fact, he hails from a family of circus performers, which explains his beaming personality even when suiting up as a bad guy-defeating superhero.

"He's a fascinating guy to me, because he had all the same things happen to him," Polygon quoted McKay as saying. "He's got some of the same negatives as Bruce Wayne and then from a society standpoint - obviously he was adopted into Bruce Wayne's life ... but he didn't start that way. He's this guy who has all these negatives and then even more negatives and yet he remains."

With "Nightwing" poised to become the next big superhero film, it's inevitable that a lot of actors will be scrambling to snag the role. One interested candidate is "Supernatural" star Jared Padalecki.

On Twitter, Padalecki answered a fan's question about whether he would consider playing Nightwing on screen. He said that he's "always wanted to."

Although nothing has been confirmed at this point, several other actors have been mentioned as favorites for the role. Taking top honors is Joseph Gorden-Levitt. "Kingsman" star Taron Egerton is also a favorite to play the role. Egerton was previously rumored to play Jason Todd, a.k.a Nightwing, on "Batman v. Superman."

The version of Nightwing in his solo movie, however, is known as Dick Grayson, more popularly known as Batman's former right-hand man Robin. He is the vigilante-protector of Bludhaven, a close neighboring city of Gotham.
