Public Enemy hype man/ reality TV lothario Flavor Flav will stand trial against assault with a weapon and child endangerment charges on September 30 in Clark County District Court (Las Vegas), according to reports from Billboard.

Flav, born William Jonathan Drayton Jr., faces up to 12 years in prison if he is convicted.

The charges stem from an argument that Flav had with his longtime girlfriend's 17-year-old son last October.

The altercation started amidst an argument between Flav and his girlfriend. When her son stepped in and allegedly yelled "You're not going to talk to my mom like that," the accuser claims things got physical. Flav is accused of chasing the 200-pound high school football player with a knife, stabbing his bedroom door and threatening to kill the young man.

According to AllHipHop, the 17-year-old eventually got Flav in a head lock in the kitchen.

Flav plead not guilty on Tuesday and a local judge decided that the prosecution's case contained enough evidence for a proper trial. As such, Flav will have to fight the felony charges in court.

Flav has yet to take the stand but his attorney did suggest at a hearing in April that Flav brandished the knife in self-defense.
