It has been years since Apple upgraded the iMac product line. And similar to that, it has been rumored for a long time that Apple will ditch Intel processors for other chips; whether their custom made chips or chips from Intel's competitors such as AMD. This 2017 however, the tech giant might do both, and this time it could be a sign of Intel's demise in the chip industry.

According to Architosh, moving on from Intel to AMD with Ryzen will be a smart move for Apple. It's not just because Ryzen beats Intel chips in performance, but it is way cheaper than the Intel chips. And not only that, AMD chips values power consumption, and Ryzen was built for efficient power consumption that Apple loves so much. The iMac 2017 might be the first to benefit into this AMD and Apple teamwork.

It would be a big slap in the face for Intel, seeing one of its largest markets for years to embrace the product of its competitor. And another thing is, the tide of hype isn't on their way right now. If Intel could still get the iMac 2017 deal, it would be a game changer.

The iMac 2017 is expected to be announced on Apple's March event. According to MacWorld, there is a possibility that the iMac 2017 and its specs would be announced on the event together with iPad Pro 2, new MacBooks, iPhone SE 2 and iOS 10.3. The "Spring Forward" event will also confirm if Apple will be loyal to Intel or it will be making its walk towards AMD.

iMac 2017 predictions by MacWorld states that the device will have more Thunderbolt ports with USB-3. The iMac 2017 might be using AMD Polaris GPU and might have an option for 2TB flash storage. 64GB of RAM is expected to ship with the new iMac.
