Newcomer Khalid made it to No. 9 on the Billboard 200 with his debut album "American Teen". The R&B singer started by putting his music on SoundCloud and now, his first album has sold 37,000 units. This is the only new album in the Top 10, which is headlined by Ed Sheeran, Metallica, Bruno Mars, Future, Migos, The Weeknd, "Moana" and "Trolls".

Back in 2015, Khalid was still in high school and was spending most of his time sharing his music on SoundCloud. According to Billboard, in 2016, his song "Location" eventually became a Top 15 single. Now, his new album "American Teen" is at No. 9 on the Billboard 200. The album is also No. 3 in the R&B Albums chart and No. 6 in the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.

"Two years ago, I would've never imagined being in the position of life that I am now," 19-year-old Khalid said. Last week, his song "Location" garnered over 22.2 million impressions across radio stations, boosted by the album's release. From his album, "Saved" garnered 3.3 million live streams.

Khalid is only one of two teenagers to reach the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 in the past 12 months. The other one was 18-year-old Shawn Mendes with "Illuminate", although 12-year-old Grace VanderWaal did hit No. 9 with "Perfectly Imperfect" during the Dec. 24 listing.

Forbes also reported that Ed Sheeran led the charge this year with his album "÷" (pronounced "Divide"). Metallica followed up with "Hardwired... To Self-Destruct", which was No. 1 last year. In third place is Bruno Mars with "24k Magic". Meanwhile, rapper Future gets both the No. 4 and No. 5 spots with his albums "Future" and "Hndrxx" respectively. He was the first rapper to debut back-to-back. In sixth place is the group Migos with the album "Culture".

The No. 7 seat is taken by The Weeknd's "Starboy" LP. At No. 9, is the soundtrack album of Disney's "Moana". After that is the album from "Trolls". There were a lot of soundtrack albums from films that landed on the Top Billboard 200. The soundtrack from "Fifty Shades Darker" is at No. 13, while "Hamilton" continues its fame at No. 14. Just behind it is "La La Land". Even "Suicide Squad" manages to grab a spot at No. 38.
