Performance Designed Products (PDP) has ordered a recall of their Xbox One Energizer 2X Smart Chargers after they received reports of overheating. Furthermore, the chargers are also said to cause damage to the console's controllers.

The company issued a statement this week that their Xbox One Energizer 2X Smart Chargers are prone to overheating. It, therefore, can cause damage to the controllers, but also to the users. Fortunately, no human damage has been reported due to the faulty chargers so far. However, 24 reports have been filed with PDP saying that the charger deformed its plastic casing. Additionally, there have been six cases of the charger discharging a burning smell. Due to that, PDP has advised players to immediately stop using their affected units.

WWG wrote that 121,000 units that were distributed in the US since the Xbox One Energizer 2X Smart Chargers' launch will be recalled. On top of that, the recall also affects 7,250 units in Canada and 2,560 units in Mexico. Fortunately for consumers, they can apply for a refund with PDP through their website and submit a ticket. They also have the option to call the company at 800-263-1156 from 10 am to 4 pm PT from Monday to Friday.

The recall does not affect all chargers sold, though. TechRadar noted that only those Xbox One Energizer 2X Smart Chargers with 048-052-NA in their serial numbers are subject to the safety recall. Still, it will pay for players to be careful and check their chargers for signs of overheating.

PDP's Xbox One Energizer 2X Smart Chargers are encased in plastic and measure 3.5 in length, 5 inches in width and 11 inches in height. The charger is capable of holding two Xbox controllers at a time. The China-manufactured devices were sold at Best Buy, GameStop and other gaming stores. Players also purchased them online through Amazon and other shopping sites.
