‘This Is Us’ Season 2 Plot: Jack’s Murderer Revealed; Miguel & Rebecca’s Future Explored

Killing off the main character is always a risky move for any TV series, let alone do it in the very first season. However, "This Is Us" pulled off this risky move when Jack (Milo Ventimiglia), the protagonist, was killed off in the series finale. "This Is Us" Season 2 will focus on revealing who killed Jack and also delve into the future of Miguel (Jon Huertas) and Rebecca's (Mandy Moore) relationship.

There have been a ton of theories surrounding the death of Jack among "This Is Us" fans after the show suddenly killed off the main character. While some of the theories have been debunked by the cast and crew themselves during the Paley Fest recently, some remain. They also discussed what's in store for the viewers in "This Is Us" Season 2.

One of the most speculated theories was that Jack has been murdered by Miguel, Jack's former best friend. This theory gained momentum after Miguel and Rebecca's surprise hook up at the end of season one, something that will further be explained in "This Is Us" Season 2. However, the cast debunked this theory during Paley Fest, Entertainment Weekly reports. Similarly, the idea that Jack's daughter, Kate (Chrissy Metz), or Rebecca might have ended up killing Jack intentionally or unintentionally was also quickly swept aside, Cosmopolitan reported.

The only theory that the cast members did not comment on was the fact that Jack might have been killed in a plane crash, Entertainment Weekly reported. There are many evidence to support this theory, some of the potent ones being, Kate's fear of flying, Kevin (Justin Hartley) throwing away his airplane model collection after his Jack's death and the crashing of a USAir jet just outside Pittsburg when Jack and Rebecca were teenagers. As for the theory that Jack might have been murdered instead of accidentally killed, fans have to tune into "This Is Us" Season 2.

"We got to see Jack from a certain perspective this season, and I think we might get him from another perspective in other characters [next season]," Glenn Ficarra, the screenwriter stated. Another plotline that will be explored in "This Is Us" Season 2 is how Rebecca ends up getting married to Miguel. Viewers will be waiting to find out how Jack's best friend betrayed him in order to end up with Rebecca.
