ExtraTorrent Returns But Users Warn About Its 'Fake' Version

ExtraTorrent is one of the most popular sites today. However, earlier this month, it shut down for good. Just days after its announcement, a number of sites appeared, but those were fake and users should be cautious when using those.

Earlier this month, ExtraTorrent announced that they are shutting down for good. "ExtraTorrent has shut down permanently. ExtraTorrent with all mirrors goes offline. We permanently erase all data."

The same announcement also warned users to stay away from fake ExtraTorrent websites and clones. Internet users should take the warning by heart because just days after the announcement, a number of ExtraTorrent fake versions came online.

There are booby-trapped versions of ExtraTorrent that can cripple gadgets with nasty viruses and malware. The crooks reportedly took advantage of its collapse by creating different versions that are a scam, The Sun reported.

When visiting a Torrent site, you will typically see a searchable library of popular films. However, some just show links that claims will download the latest film onto your computer.

Although some were fake, other claim that there were legit sites with all the files from ExtraTorrent. "We have successfully resurrected [ExtraTorrent] back to it's [sic] glory at extratorrent.cd with all available data," one source claimed, Independent reported.

The publication noted that the original operator of ExtraTorrent is against the idea of bringing it back. However, the people behind ExtraTorrent.cd that came to life just days after the announcement that ET is shutting down permanently claimed that the site is their home and they won't allow anyone to destroy it.

Torrent Freak branded the ExtraTorrent.cd as "opportunist copycats." It even compared it to Pirate Bay mirror with ExtraTorrent skin. Some users claimed that the site works and a number attested that it is not malicious.
