Nestled broadly in the heart of New York City's diverse Upper West Side, glaring over Manhattan's historical Harlem boundaries, Columbia University is one of  New York City's top Universities.  The Ivy League Institution is home to students of all colors, races, and creeds, hence why the school is considering abolishing a 100-year-old White Students ONLY scholarship.

According to Christian Post, The scholarship has been part of the tradition of Columbia University for nearly a century; however, it has recently come under fire with critics claiming that it is racially provocative.

The Lydia C. Roberts Graduate Fellowship stipulates that money be given only to "a person of the Caucasian race, reported Christian Science Monitor.  I addition to the whites only rule, students must be from the state of Iowa and must have plans on returning home after they complete their education at the prestigious university.

University officials filed court papers last week seeking to change the race provisions of the bequest.

The Daily News reports that Columbia hasn't awarded the fellowship since 1997.

Lydia Roberts awarded Columbia University in 1920 more than a quarter of a million dollars from her estate to be used to fund scholarships, but since then times have changed in American and New York City inclusively.

What do you think about the white-only scholarship?  Should the rules be changed?  What does the Roberts family think?
