Google had some interesting news today at their annual I/O conference. They will be getting into the music streaming game. According to USA Today, Google Play Music: All Access will allow users to stream from a large library of music for a monthly fee. Watch the official presentation below: The service will cost $7.99/month for users who sign up before June 30. Then, the price goes to $9.99. This is on par with Spotify Premium but well above the price of Pandora One, whose $36 annual subscription comes out to $3/month. Google Play Music: All Access seems to be a middle ground between Spotify and Pandora. Users will be able to pick songs to stream at will, but will be given the option to turn any selected song into a radio station. One feature it didn’t co-opt was the “easy to say” aspect of its one word competition. Google Play Music: All Access sounds like the subject line of an email written by a spambot. While it is unclear whether GPM:AA will affect streaming stalwarts Pandora and Spotify, Pandora’s shares did fall after the announcement. The question is will the market have room for Google’s intrusion, or are people already so firmly entrenched with Spotify and Pandora as to make Google’s attempt a bust? (Think Facebook, Google+). Would you give GPM:AA a try? Sound off in the comments.
