"American Idol" Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks was caught by TMZ's camera crew and asked about the recent drama on "American Idol."

Randy Jackson, the only original judge left on the show, quit and rumors of a complete "Idol" overhaul have run rampant. The ratings for the show are also at an all-time low.

Hicks offered his comments on the "American Idol" situation in the following video:

"I think there will always be drama, but that's good, though. It's good for the show...You gotta change things up, for sure," Hicks said.

Hicks said he does not think the show should just go quietly into the night and that a change at the judges' table could help save it.

"I think a revolving door of judges is a good thing," Hicks said. "I think having new judges is always a good thing."

When asked which of the judges' panels worked best, Hicks joked, "I'm definitely partial to my season."

As for Season 12, Hicks said he preferred Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban. The Season 5 winner also thought the fans picked the right winner in Season 12.

"I thought it was great. I thought Candice (Glover) was, I think she was awesome, but I like Kree (Harrison), too," Hicks said. "Both of them, I think, were the best singers in the group."

Hicks has had mixed success in his career after "American Idol." He released three albums (Taylor Hicks, Early Works and The Distance) from 2006 to 2009.
