The former lead singer of the British pop group Wham!, George Michael, has been released from the hospital following injuries sustained in a car accident two weekends. Though "car accident" is the official label for the incident, it was not exactly what it sounds like. No other vehicles were involved in the accident and Michaels actually fell out of his chauffeured Range Rover that was reportedly travelling at 70 MPH on the M1 motorway. After being airlifted to the hospital, Michael was "under close observation" during his stay.

A statement on George Michael's official website read:

"We can confirm that George Michael has been discharged from hospital and continues to rest and recuperate. He is well and thanks everyone for all the messages of support."

The popular singer has sold over 100 million records over his career and has had his fair share of controversial headlines as well. Most recently, though, it seems that his health and driving incidents have been the subject of media coverage involving him.

About 18 months ago, the "Careless Whisper" singer was very close to death after coming down with pneumonia while in Vienna. This resulted in canceled tour dates, but eventually the singer recovered. Last year he canceled a tour due to "major anxiety" resulting from the pneumonia diagnosis in 2011.

Also, in 2010 Michael received an eight-week prison sentence after he crashed his Range Rover into a shop in north London that previous July.

He was also given a five-year driving ban after he pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis and driving under the influence of drugs.
