Oscar winning actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman has reportedly completed a 10-day detox program after relapsing back into heroin abuse. An admitted addict in his early career, the 45-year-old Capote star had been sober for about 23 years before his recent descent back into snorting heroin. According to reports, Hoffman had started abusing prescription pills and then moved into heroin use again before checking into rehab on the east coast.

TMZ broke the news, saying "the heroin use only lasted a week or so and he quickly realized he needed help, so he checked himself into a detox facility on the East Coast.

"He says he was at the facility for 10 days and checked out last Friday.  Hoffman credits what he calls 'a great group of friends and family' for helping him seek the treatment he needed to get better.
"And at least for now, it seems it worked, because Hoffman is clean and back on a movie set in Europe."

Phillip Seymour Hoffman checked out of rehab last week after completing the 10-day program and is reportedly doing very well.
He did not attend a Hunger Games: Catching Fire press event earlier this month in Cannes. In the sequel to the popular young adult adventure story, the Academy Award winner portrays the "Head Gamemaker." It is scheduled for release in November.

"Philip has always been a role model in recovery," a source said of Hoffman's sobriety and seeking rehabilitation. "His story inspired thousands of people over the years and he never thought he was too good or too famous to help people."
