"American Idol" Season 12 runner-up Kree Harrison sat down with TVLine's Michael Slezak and talked about her experience on the Fox reality singing competition.

Below are some of the highlights from her interview:

On why she joined "American Idol":

"My sister actually said, 'You know you should really think about trying out for 'Idol.' I never thought in a million years that I would do...for me, it was just a talent show. And then, once I realized that it was basically a platform for artists to start their career and how many amazing things that it's done for Carrie (Underwood) and Jennifer Hudson and Melinda (Doolittle). It's opened up so many doors for artists and it just felt like the right thing to do at the time 'cause I had nothing to lose. I wasn't signed, wasn't with a publishing deal or a label. So I'm really glad I did it."

On Nicki Minaj's comments after her duet with Janelle Arthur, when she praised Kree at Janelle's expense:

"You don't want to be flattered or complimented at the expense of someone else, ever. Especially me. So Janelle and I...she calls me Patsy. I call her Dolly. There's room for both of us in country music. The beauty about both of us is that we're two totally different country artists. Nicki, she feels the way she does and that's why I love her because literally whatever she's thinking, she'll say. It was a weird situation but we're two strong girls so we got through it."

On her single "All Cried Out":

"There was just something about 'All Cried Out.' I mean the title alone is just kind of like the epitome of who I am. I've had tragedy or whatever but this is the sweet after the bitter and to think that I can give people that hope. It's a choice to be happy."
