A few months ago, Jon Stewart announced that he would take a hiatus from his "Daily Show" hosting duties in order to work on his directorial debut, a film entitled Rosewater.  Last night on his last episode as host until Labor Day, Stewart took some time to say good-bye, explain his film and talk about the events that lead up to him deciding to make this movie. At the end of the episode he handed over the host position to correspondent John Oliver who will be seen behind Stewart's desk for the summer of 2013.

Rosewater will be and adaptation of Then They Came For Me: A Family's Story of Love, Captivity and Survival. It tells the true story of journalist Maziar Bahari who, in 2009, spent 118 days in a prison in Iran. Stewart wrote the screenplay of his directorial debut. Academy Award winner Scott Rudin is producing the film. Actor Gael Garcia Bernal was recently cast in the lead role of Rosewater.

Bahari has been on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" on three occasions, one of which actually led to his arrest. While being interviewed by correspondent Jason Jones, the comedic side of the show was taken too seriously and the Iranian government accused Bahari of being a spy.

In the following clips, you can see Jon Stewart explain what happened to Bahari, which led to Stewart deciding to make this movie about him. You also get to see John Oliver make Stewart end the show in a different way than he wanted during a "moment of zen."
