In a recent blog post on his Fan Asylum page, ex-frontman of the 1980s rock group Journey, Steve Perry, opened up about his recent battle with cancer and the surgery he underwent to stay healthy. He also got to talk about his late girlfriend Kellie Nash who died last December from complications due to breast cancer and brain cancer. This is the first time that Perry has opened up about his illness and Nash, but he wanted to make sure that his fans understood his situation and how he dealt with her passing as well.

Perry revealed that he recently went in for surgery for melanoma after a mole removal procedure came back positive for skin cancer.  He wrote:

"Three weeks ago a routine mole was taken off my face and the lab report came back Melanoma skin cancer. I've had two surgeries in two weeks to remove all the cancer cells and I've been told they think they got it all and no other treatments are required."

But before he got to this point of his post, Perry shared his amazing story of falling in love with Kellie Nash, a woman with cancer who he had spotted in a Lifetime production and tracked down. Perry was warned about Nash's terminal illness, but contacted her anyway and the two began a relationship despite the inevitable.

"I never felt like this before... I had finally found her. She's real and she's right in front of me. We started seeing each other and yes, we both knew that we were meant to be together. My life was forever changed in ways I will explain at another time but it was all because of my Kellie."

"She was so strong, so courageous and we really loved each other so very much. I've been trying to grieve and not run from this loss so for the last 5 months that's what I've been doing along with recalling everything being in Love with Kellie taught me.

"She helped me in so many ways. I Love and miss her terribly."

Perry ended his message with a lovely sentiment to his lost love, explaining, "Though Kellie and I were only together for 1 and 1/2 years, it was a lifetime of love packed into every moment."
