Demi Lovato, Niall Horan 'Not Really' Friends: One Direction Twitter Fans and Tabloids Caused 'Heart Attack' Singer to Stop Hanging Out with Irish Heartthrob

Demi Lovato and Niall Horan have been the subject of numerous dating rumors for almost a whole year now. Ever since the two hit it off as best friends last year, people have wondered and gossiped about whether or not they began a romantic relationship on top of their friendship. Unfortunately it looks like all of that unwanted attention has gotten to them since Lovato admits that the tow do not get to enjoy their friendship as much as they would like.

When Heat Magazine asked if she and Niall still hang out, Demi responded:

"Not really. Unfortunately, as sweet as he is, it's hard to maintain a friendship with somebody that you really can't hang out with without people automatically assuming that you're dating ... People tweeted and either said really nice things or rude things. More nice than bad, I guess."

So the One Direction fans got to Demi after all. Luckily she never got the usual death threats that most celebrity fanatics are known for on Twitter. But it looks like we can all put the rumors of Demi and Niall dating to rest ... for now.

Niall is currently on the "Take Me Home" tour with One Direction and reportedly homesick. While on tour he posted a few tweets to his Twitter account leading many to believe he was homesick. Here is one example: "Won't be at home for a long time now! Gonna miss the family and the lads! Very limited time with them!"

Lovato, on the other hand, just recently saw some great success in the U.K. Her single "Heart Attack" just reached number 3 in the U.K. charts, which is better than her friends Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus have done in the country!
